Quesitos

Quesitos are a pastry found in all bakeries o "panaderĂas" in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico's bakeries are more than just pastries, bread and coffee. You can find bakeries serving meals (breakfast and lunch the most popular), some includes a mini-mart. It is a place where neighbors gather or it is use for meetings.  You can find a bakery in every corner so quesitos too!

I used natural (organic) ingredients as much as I can to eliminate/reduce all the harmful ingredients found in foods.

Ingredients:

  • 2 Puff pastry sheets
  • 8oz Cream Cheese
  • 3 tbs sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 egg white
  • Cinnamon to taste
  • Blue Agave syrup (you can use corn syrup or make a caramel syrup with sugar and water)

Directions
  • Thaw the pastry sheets if frozen following package instructions.
  • Mix the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla. You can add cinnamon to taste if you want to the cheese mixture. I prefer this. You can also split the mixture to do it with and without cinnamon. You can also use flavored cream cheese.
  • In a separate small bowl make a sugar and cinnamon mixture.  Approximately 1/4 cup.
  • Heat oven at 375°.
  • Cut the pastry sheets 3"x5" approximately.
  • Place 1 - 2 tsp in the center of the cut sheets and spread lengthwise.
  • Wrap the cheese around and press to seal the seam and ends.
  • Place the seam upside down.
  • Brush the top with egg white.
  • Then brush the top with the sugar cinnamon mixture. The more sugar the better.
  • Bake for 15 - 17 min.
  • Broil for 1 - 2 min. Or until light golden.
  • Brush agave on top and let it cool for 10 min.
Enjoy!
